WorkLight Launches Cloud-Based Financial Widget Platform

Nov. 4, 2009

BOSTON, MA – November 4, 2009 – WorkLight®, the leader in Secure Web 2.0 for Business, today announced the availability of the WorkLight Application Platform as a hosted solution, tailored for financial institutions of all sizes. Making the announcement at the annual BAI Retail Delivery Conference & Expo, WorkLight is showcasing how banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions can develop and launch transactional widgets across mobile, web, desktop and social Web 2.0 channels.

Widgets, essentially mini-applications designed for highly-targeted interactions, continue to gain popularity across online, mobile, desktop and social environments. Popular services include iGoogle which has gained more than 250% over a two year period, Facebook that is used by over 300 million users worldwide, the Apple iPhone which has sold over 30 million units to date, Adobe AIR with over 250 million installations and other Web 2.0 services that users trust for daily interactions.

A transactional widget allows customers, both in retail and corporate banking, to manage accounts, transfer funds and pay bills directly from their desktops, mobile devices, personalized homepages and social networking sites.

Last month, WorkLight released a survey of 500 financial professionals of which 63 percent identified transactional widgets as a priority for the next 12 months.

“More and more financial institutions realize the impact of having an ‘Always-On’ banking widget at the customer’s fingertips, and are now turning to secure widgets. This goes hand-in-hand with the growing trend of merging the mobile, desktop, web and social channels into one unified customer experience,” said Shahar Kaminitz, CEO of WorkLight. “To meet this demand, we are now extending our technology to the Cloud, affording credit unions and banks the flexibility to develop, launch and manage business widgets without requiring additional resources for on-premise installations.”

WorkLight now offers financial institutions of all sizes a hosted SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) solution, providing secure widgets, fully developed, managed and hosted by WorkLight. Minimal integration effort with the current online banking system is required. Widgets include the bank’s brand and may include advertising and special offers, linked to the bank’s website.

This new release complements WorkLight’s flagship product, the WorkLight Application Platform, which is currently used worldwide by Global 1000 financial institutions as an on-premise, secure platform for financial widgets.

“What has typically been classified as an emerging technology in some industries, including the financial services industry until recently, is by now commonplace mainstream technology used by hundreds of millions of customers. The business world now realizes that widgets and social media are becoming a critical part of the business, much like the online channel evolved over a decade ago,” added Kaminitz.
